How to Change a System from Within

Marc Beckmann
"If you are in the wrong system you won't succeed."
Dennis Hoenig-Ohnsorg

If you do not fit into a system, it does not necessarily mean that something is wrong with you. More often, the system is just wrong for you - and maybe you are able to change it. Dennis Hoenig-Ohnsorg realized this in early childhood. He still draws motivation from this experience as an intrapreneur and serial entrepreneur in the fields of social innovation and sustainability.

Dennis is part of the Global Catalyst Team of the League of Intrapreneurs, which co-creates tools and platforms to support League communities around the world. The League of Intrapreneurs is a global learning community of intrapreneurs driving change from within. Members aim to prototype the future of work, cultivating cultures that are more authentic, innovative, collaborative, and ultimately more meaningful.

The League was co-created and is supported by the BMW Foundation Herbert Quandt. Its goal is to unlock the human potential inside the most influential organizations to create a more prosperous, equitable, and sustainable world in line with the UN 2030 Agenda.

In 2015, Dennis joined a large structure himself, building and leading the sustainability and CSR department at Zalando, one of the biggest European e-commerce companies for fashion. In 2019, he switched roles to co-lead, together with his wife, their social venture "Wirkungslotsen" (impact pilots). Through their agency and rural incubator for social innovation, both combine their passion for inner work, organizational development, and system change to help individuals and institutions increase their level of impact.

Dennis is a member of the BMW Foundation Responsible Leaders Network. In 2018, he was elected a Global Fellow of the League of Intrapreneurs and now acts as a regional catalyst in Europe. The League Global Fellowship is awarded annually to 50 accomplished intrapreneurs working on a range of issues from creating more inclusive political systems to fostering access to healthcare to prototyping circular economy business models and much more.

League Fellows come from 16 countries and are driving change from within a variety of of influential institutions such as Nestlé, Johnson & Johnson, Unilever, Coca-Cola, Farm, Barclays, Covestro, the City of San Francisco, the Government of Australia, WWF, CARE, and many others.
