In times when multilateralism seems at stake, it is even more important to remind the G20 Heads of State that global challenges require global solutions. Foundations from all parts of the world have established the F20 platform to advance the 2030 Agenda of the UN and be part of the solution, especially with regards to climate change. The goal is to build bridges between civil society, business, and politics within the G20 countries and beyond. In our series, we will introduce some of the foundations.
Why are you part of F20?
Ramiro Fernandez: F20 offers a triple opportunity for Fundación Avina: It connects our local and regional work in Latin America with the global processes of G20, the SDG global agenda, and the climate change agenda. We also hope to build a common long-term strategy and partnerships with other foundations of F20. Finally, F20 offers an opportunity to align our regional strategy with other foundations globally as we move towards the G20 summit in Argentina in 2018.
F20 Foundations Platform
The F20 Foundations Platform is an unprecedented alliance of more than 45 foundations and philanthropic organizations from around the world. The BMW Foundation Herbert Quandt is part of the platform’s Steering Group. The participating foundations seek to identify and expose pathways towards sustainable development and call upon the G20 Heads of State to take action. Its aim is to gather momentum for the implementation of the UN Paris climate agreement in order to build bridges between different stakeholders – including the private sector and civil society. The 2018 G20 Summit will be held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, at the end of November.
What can you contribute?
Ramiro Fernandez: This year, we support F20 as the local host foundation for the G20 process in Argentina and potentially in other Latin American countries in the future. We can also connect the global network of foundations with Latin American foundations and partners and, as a foundation grounded in an emerging economy, offer a particular perspective and vision that is complementary to the visions of foundations from the developed world.
What is Fundación Avina in a nutshell?
At Fundación Avina, we aim to support stakeholders in Latin America in the implementation of the UN 2030 Agenda. We use a multi-stakeholder strategy, bringing together the public sector, business, and civil society for a collaborative process. We employ a triple innovation strategy encompassing social, economic, and technological innovation to accelerate the social transformation needed to achieve the SDGs.
